Body Systems
This project challenged us to learn about 2 different organ systems, their functions, and how they worked together. We then had to create a model displaying these organ systems and their fuctions, and present it. My group included Marilynn Hunt, Connor Moylan, and Jeffrey Suther. Our group decided to focus on the skeletal and muscular systems.
Presentation
Content
Skeletal system: an organ system that contains your bones, cartilage, and joints. It is the framework of your body and protects your internal organs.
Muscular system: an organ system that contains smooth, cardiac, and skeletal muscle. It is the force behind body movement.
(We learned about the skeletal and muscular systems for our project.)
Organ: a self-contained body part that does vital function
(We needed to learn what an organ is because there are a lot of different organs in each body system.)
Bone: hard connective tissue that makes up the skeleton
Cartilage: firm, elastic connective tissue
Joint: a body part made of tissue that connects bones
(We needed to know the organs in the skeletal system to understand how it works.)
Tendon: a cord of fibrous collagen tissue that attaches muscle to bone
(In order to learn how the two systems worked together, we needed to know how they were connected.)
Smooth muscle: type of muscle that controls involuntary movement
Cardic muscle: type of muscle only found in the heart
Skeletal muscle: type of muscle that controls voluntary movement and is connected to bone

Overview
For the representation of how the 2 systems work together, we chose to build a model displaying the movement of the bones and muscles working together through an arm-muscle model. We attached 2 pieces of wood together through a hinge, (represents the bones) and used balloons to represent the muscles. We also built a ribcage to represent the protection that bones provide, and filled a baloon part way up with sand to represent stomach muscles.
Reflection
During this project, I felt that a lot of the material was very understandable and I thought that I proccessed the information well. Overall, I definetely improved on time management during this project, as my group and I finished the project early. I really enjoyed that we got a more hands on project this time, and constructing it was a lot of fun. Next project, I'd like to learn to use my time affectedly, becauseafter we finished the project early I did not do anything too constructive. I'd also like to work more on cooperation, so that everyone's ideas get heard. Overall, I really enjoyed this project.
